INTRA-PARTY violence rocked Zanu-PF Kwekwe offices yesterday, as rival youth groups fought running battles in what could be deepening factional fights.

The violence broke out after youth allegedly aligned to former party official, Kandros Mugabe reportedly besieged the party office and disrupted a Presidential youth interface rally planning meeting.

Zanu-PF Midlands provincial spokesperson, Cornelius Mupereri confirmed the incident.

"Mugabe hired his thugs and bused them to the party offices, where they tried to disrupt a meeting, which the party leadership was using to update supporters on biometric voter registration and the interface rally. Nobody was beaten up, but there was chaos and a standoff," he said.

But witnesses, who refused to be named, said the youth were throwing stones at each other, while others exchanged fists as violence erupted.

"It was an ugly scene. They were shouting at each other and throwing stones as they fought running battles at the party office," a witness said.

Mugabe was not answering his mobile phone.

In 2014, his supporters were arrested and charged for violence after they stormed the party offices.
