Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs minister Webster Shamu has blasted non-governmental organisations (NGOs) that were distancing themselves from Zanu-PF in their activities within marginalised communities.

Speaking during the handover of 10 boreholes in Makonde district that were drilled through the support of the Japanese government, Shamu told the community to remain on the lookout for NGOs which claim to operate independently from government.

"If anyone claims to have attracted foreign funding on any project on their own without Zanu-PF, those are lies," he said.

Shamu said development was part of Zanu-PF ideology and went on to praise President Robert Mugabe's endless foreign trips which recently attracted widespread criticism, saying it was out of those trips that countries like Japan were helping in developmental projects.

He said the government was committed to the implementation of the 10 Sustainable Development Goals and warned the community to safeguard the various infrastructure being developed out of government's efforts.

"Those saying President Mugabe's foreign trips are just there to gobble money are liars," Shamu said.

Japanese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Toshiyuki Iwado hailed the Farm Community Trust of Zimbabwe, the NGO responsible for spearheading the borehole project in Makonde district.

"I would like to appreciate Farm Community Trust of Zimbabwe for implementing this very important project, you have shown what can be done when we join hands and work together for the good of the community," he said.
