A political commentator Honest Rwodzi has expressed reservations over why many key institutions and facilities in the country could be named in honour of President Robert Mugabe and his family as if Mugabe was alone at the battle front during the war.

"Of Robert Mugabe International Airport. I honestly don't have a problem when an African Airport is named after a Nationalist. However, the problem arise when all structures are just named after a particular living Nationalist. Was he alone alone at the battle front? So a dead Nationalist doesn't matter?" he asked.

"Secondly, the timing for such a renaming was misplaced. This is a thesis and a parenthesis of misplaced priorities. Once again principle has been sacrificed on the altar of political expediency. It takes a shameless nation like ours to gobble over $US 500 000 for such a project at a time we're having a budget deficit of US$1.82 billion. Half a million can do wonders- it can secure free education for that little 9year old girl-turned-prostitute from Epworth. That money can cloth the undressed and feed the hungry children of our nation."

"Lastly, I'm disappointed by the some tribal undertones which underline the naming of such. It boggles mind why this airport was not renamed years ago after Joshua Nkomo. Robert Mugabe airport should have been in Vic Falls if we were not tribal."

He said after all, he hold strongly the view that Harare Airport should have been named after Hebert Wilshire Hamandishe Chitepo .
