Phillip Chiyangwa is set to bounce back into the political limelight as Zanu PF deputy provincial chairperson for Mashonaland West.

Party insiders said the former Zanu PF provincial chairman and Chinhoyi MP could be co-opted when the provincial committee meets soon to fill the vacant posts in its structures.

Newly-elected Zanu PF provincial chairperson John Mafa, who ironically once worked as Chiyangwa's deputy, said they will meet soon to co-opt other members to ensure the provincial structures operate effectively.

Chiyangwa was readmitted into the former ruling party late last year following his suspension over espionage allegations.

Zanu PF national secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa yesterday said the province had the prerogative to co-opt any member of the party including Chiyangwa to any position.

Chiyangwa on Tuesday said he was ready to rejoin the party leadership in any capacity.

The politician also confirmed he was eyeing the Chinhoyi Urban seat now under the ambit of MDC-T.

Chiyangwa's readmission has reportedly caused unease among Zanu PF party politburo "bigwigs" who regard his return as a threat to their political careers.

Other sources said Mafa was pushing for Chiyangwa's co-option as payback for the businessman's benevolence in the run-up to the party's provincial elections early this year.

Chiyangwa reportedly bankrolled Mafa's campaign.
