National People's Party spokesperson Methuseli Moyo has said former President Robert Mugabe is lucky to be removed from power by smiling faces when his 37 years of rule was maintained through the blood of the innocent citizens.
Mugabe resigned on Tuesday after mounting pressure from citizens and Zanu PF members for him to step down.
"Mugabe is very lucky: for all his cruelty for 37 years, he gets removed by smiling friends who even afford him the luxury to address the nation, officiate at a graduation ceremony, and shuffle between his two residences. The incoming president better do things differently. He might not be so lucky," Moyo said.
"Emmerson Mnangagwa may suffer for Mugabe's sins, unless he takes a new direction. Tribalism, impunity, corruption, theft, patronage, incompetency, extravagancy, and all ills cultivated by Zanu PF for 37 years must end. Otherwise it won't last. We need real democracy, press freedom, devolution, development, jobs, access to capital, among other key issues."
