The logic of Obert Mpofu being retained as Minister of Home Affairs by President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been questioned by many considering numerous allegations of underhand dealings he is suspected of when he was Mines minister.
MDC-T Bulawayo spokesperson Felix Sibanda said to him and some like-minded political observers and analysts have been questioning the logic of retaining the same as a government minister with questionable financial records and integrity.
"Why some known miscreants have been preserved by ED Administration? It is therefore prudent to remind the Zimbabweans from the onset that it is on record that the former president, Mugabe told the nation about the unaccountable $15 billions at Marange diamond fields. Coincidentally or not, Dr Mpofu is the chief Zanu-PF fundraiser," he said.
"It is, therefore, correctly assumed and concluded that he, Dr Mpofu might have syphoned part of the $15 billion uncounted loot to Zanu-PF coffers as it were.
It is therefore logical that one be forgiven if he alleges that, President ED is keeping old faces in his cabinet as payback for looting for Zanu-PF when he was second in command to the deposed Mugabe as the founding leader of Zimbabwe since independence, 1980."
He said it is, therefore, his humble submission on the pending puzzle as to why Dr Mpofu and others have been retained by ED Administration in the critical government portfolios regardless of their tentered personalities on financial management and integrity.
