MDC led by Welshman Ncube has joined the world in celebrating the the international human rights day.

"Zimbabweans commemorate Human Rights day and the MDC joins the world in observing this iconic day. We reflect on the tragic Gukurahundi atrocities that claimed over 20, 000 lives; the land grabbing of the year 2000; Operation Murambatsvina that left thousands displaced; 2008 election violence that left hundrends of opposition supporters brutalized and killed; unconstitutional arrests, detention, assault, abduction and murders of human rights activists over the years, and many other gruesome acts of the systematic violation of human rights by the Zanu PF regime," said Kurauone Chihwayi the party spokesperson..

"This Human Rights day serves not only to reflect on our history but also as a constant reminder that the struggle to democratizing our nation is far from being over. It is on this day that we call upon the people of Zimbabwe, from the length and breadth of our country to redouble their efforts and renew their determination to ensure the realization of a nation in which everyone enjoys equal rights regardless of colour, ethnicity, political affiliation or gender. We take this opportunity to reiterate and re-affirm that every Zimbabwean was born equally with inalienable rights."

He said as painful as our history is, the MDC is committed to building a democratic nation with a united citizenry.

"Forever, in our revolutionary struggle, we will condemn and lament any form of discrimination and injustice exercised on anyone by anyone across the entire world. As we commemorate this day, we demand free and fair, uncontestable elections next year so that Zimbabweans exercise their sovereign right to elect leaders and a government of their choice," he said.
