The entire MDC family has been plunged into mourning following the sudden death of Mashonaland Central Provincial Chairperson, Justin Chitate, on December 31,2017.
This was announced by party spokesperson Obert Gutu.
He said the late Chitate collapsed and died immediately after addressing a ward meeting in his home province.
"We would like to take this opportunity to express our deepest condolences to the Chitate family and indeed to the entire MDC family on this tragic and devastating loss. Chitate was a very humble but extremely hard - working cadre of the party. He was unassuming but thoroughly dedicated to his duties as the chairperson of the party in Mashonaland Central province. Mr Chitate was a brother, a father, a leader and indeed,a comrade. The void that he leaves will be very difficult to fill. He leaves us at a time when the whole country is putting final touches to the ongoing BVR exercise as we prepare for the harmonized elections that will be held in the next few months," he said.
"It is also most disheartening that the late Mr.Chitate passed on at a time when his exemplary and visionary leadership of Mashonaland Central province was needed most. The MDC shall remain forever indebted and grateful to the late Mr. Chitate's unwavering devotion to duty and his unrelenting commitment to the struggle to establish a free, democratic and progressive Zimbabwe."
He said to the Chitate family, they say their loss is also every member's loss.
"As we mourn with you during this difficult and painful period, we kindly urge you to take comfort in the fact that the late Mr Chitate will never be forgotten. His fatherly and mature approach to politics will continue to guide us as the democratic struggle enters the home stretch. May his departed soul rest in eternal peace," he said.
