The trial of Munyaradzi Gwisai and 5 others charged with conspiracy to commit public violence resumed yesterday with the former Highfield legislator testifying in his defence.

Gwisai was placed on his defence after the court dismissed his application for discharge at the close of the State case.

He is jointly charged with Antoneta Choto, Tatenda Mombeyarara, Edson Chakuma, Hopewell Gumbo and Welcome Zimuto.

Gwisai denied the charges against him claiming that their meeting was purely academic.

He told the court that the objectives of the meeting were to discuss events taking place in North Africa and to commemorate the life of an Aids activist Navigator Mungoni who had passed away.
