'We want to win the expected elections' - Zanu-PF

State media, Zbc reported on Sunday that Zanu-PF Harare Province is winding up the restructuring of the party at grassroots level in preparation for the anticipated elections this year amid calls that there should be no imposition of candidates.
The programme to rejuvenate the party which has been carried out in the province was taken to Chitungwiza where a provincial coordinating meeting to conclude the verification exercise was conducted.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Provincial Coordinating Meeting, Harare Provincial Chairman Ambassador Amos Midzi said the party seeks to solidify its structures as part of their preparations to win the next elections with a wide margin.
Ambassador Midzi said: "We want to win the expected elections and this is part of a broader preparatory programme to organise our cells, districts and provinces."
Zanu-PF Politburo Member Xvairai Chizema says the process which is in its final stages is a major step in assessing the readiness of the party to participate fully in the anticipated elections this year.
He said: "We are assessing our readiness for the crucial elections where we want as a party to leave a mark."
Another politburo member Charles Tawengwa noted that the forthcoming elections will be unique in that the party leadership has agreed that no imposition of candidates will be tolerated.
"As a party we have resolved that there will be no imposition of candidates, the candidate has to come from the grassroots levels so that we do not repeat the mistakes we made in the 2008 harmonised elections."
Other issues discussed included poor service delivery in Harare and Chitungwiza as well as the indigenisation and empowerment programme.
Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Dr Ignatius Chombo also updated the meeting on what government has done in most urban local authorities to ensure that service delivery is restored.
Reports from the Women's League and the Youth League were presented.
