Former Zanu-PF provincial chairman Philip Chiyangwa has bounced back into the Mashonaland West leadership structures as vice-chairman.

Chiyangwa beat former acting chairman Reuben Marumahoko in elections held in Chinhoyi last Friday.

The polls were meant to fill vacant posts in the provincial executive.

Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial chairman John Mafa confirmed the election of Chiyangwa and three other executive members.

"There were a lot of vacant posts at the time I was re-elected provincial chairman and we wanted to fill them so that party programmes move forward," said Mafa.

He said the newly-elected executive members would strengthen party structures ahead of the general election set for this year.

"Most people were occupying the posts in an acting capacity and this usually affects performance. We expect the substantive members to put 100 percent effort into pushing the party forward."

Also elected on Friday was Tapera Table, who becomes provincial secretary for administration.

He beat three other candidates  √ɬ¢√¢‚Äö¬¨" Isaac Mackenzie, Risipa Ray Kapesa and Simbarashe Kanzou √ɬ¢√¢‚Äö¬¨" in the race for the post that fell vacant following the death of Robert Sikanyika.

Joseph Chirongoma is the new provincial political commissar after seeing off a challenge from John Yotamu.

The post was yet to be filled following the death of the incumbent, Phillip Muguti.

Clever Zinyemba was elected secretary for transport and welfare after beating Mackenzie.

Chiyangwa was last month cleared to stand for any position in the party after his suspension in 2004 following espionage allegations.

Zanu-PF secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa wrote to Chiyangwa advising him of his re-admission into the party.
