ASPIRING Zanu PF MP for Mt Darwin South constituency businessman James Makamba has been disqualified from contesting in the party primary elections expected to take place this Saturday.

According to NewZimbabwe.com, Makamba's name was in the final list of 19 aspiring candidates announced last Saturday by the party's national election commission chairperson Engelbert Rugeje.

Zanu PF Mashonaland Central provincial chairperson Kazembe Kazembe confirmed the latest development, saying Makamba does not meet the criteria.

According to the guidelines for one to qualify to represent the ruling party as MP you should have served at least at provincial level for a minimum effective time of five years, well versed with national issues and should also have been part of the party's district structures for a five years.

"We got the final list for aspiring candidates for Mashonaland Central province and yes Makamba's name was there, but according to the national election commission criteria he did not meet the said requirements," said Kazembe Kazembe.

Makamba returned to Zimbabwe after 17 years of self-imposed exile.
