The population in Kuwadzana East constituency in Harare has continued to grow over the years yet the number of primary and secondary schools in the area has not increased to match the growing demand for education.

Zanu-PF National Assembly candidate for Kuwadzana East and aspiring councillor for ward 37 in the constituency have vowed to bring development to the area in line with party's national vision.

The Zanu-PF Women's League door-to-door campaigns which seek to garner support for President Emmerson Mnangagwa in the forthcoming elections have now been rolled out to all constituencies in the capital.

This week members of the Women's League were in Kuwadzana East constituency which comprises Kuwadzana 1, Eastridge Estate and Kambuzuma where they engaged residents and distributed pamphlets at shopping centres.

There are only three secondary schools in the area namely Kuwadzana 1, 3, and 4 and 2 Primary Schools and numerous informal and private colleges which conduct their businesses in residential homes.

People in the area accuse their parliamentary representative Nelson Chamisa who is MDC Alliance presidential candidate of making false promises during his tenure and using the library located at Kuwadzana 4 shopping centre as a campaign tool but failing to have it functional.

Aspiring Zanu-PF councillor for ward 37 Cde Jelphanos Jaya and the party's National Assembly candidate for Kuwadzana East constituency Cde Ernest Chagadama said the area is lagging behind in many aspects and when voted into office they will foster development.

Zanu-PF Harare Province Women's League chairwoman, Cde Ratidzo Mukarati said the door-to-door campaigns have enabled the Women's League to have an appreciation of the challenges facing residents.

Problems in Kuwadzana East constituency include burst sewer pipes, water shortages, dilapidated road infrastructure and inadequate schools which has seen most pupils walking long distances to schools in Mufakose.
