Former Information Minister and Zanu-PF Mhondoro-Ngezi legislator Bright Matonga has been dragged to court over a debt of $ 3 000 owed to a local agro-chemical supplier, Agricura for supplies dating back to 2010.
The company, through its lawyers has filed a lawsuit at the High Court over the legislator's failure to settle the $3 000 debt for supplies to his Chigwell farm in Chegutu.
"In December 2010 plaintiff (Agricura) and defendant (Matonga) entered into an agreement in terms of which plaintiff extended to defendant a credit facility for the purchase of various agro-chemicals.
"In terms of the aforesaid agreement, defendant undertook to make payment in full on all accounts with plaintiff within 15 days of purchase, pay interest on all outstanding amounts at the prevailing bank rate charged by plaintiff's bankers on overdue accounts and pay plaintiff's legal costs on a legal practitioner and client scale and collection commission incurred by plaintiff," read the court papers.
The company added that the legislator failed to pay his arrears despite receiving several letters of demand.
"Notwithstanding plaintiff's lawful demand, defendant has failed and/or refused to settle its indebtedness to plaintiff where plaintiff prays for an order against defendant of payment in the sum of $3 356,14 together with interest."
