ZANU-PF party has urged its supporters to ignore the opposition MDC Alliance Constitutional Court petition challenging the presidential election results announced by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) last week, NewZimbabwe.com reported.

Addressing the media at the ruling party's head office in Harare Sunday, Zanu-PF national commissar Engelbert Rugeje said the opposition's petition does not affect other scheduled national events.

"Some people think that because of the poll petition, other national events have also been postponed or cancelled," he said.

"To our supporters, celebrating our heroes and heroines on Monday (Heroes Day) and the Defence Forces Day on Tuesday (13-14 August) is paramount to those who died for the struggle to liberate the nation.

"These celebrations will take place in all provinces. I would want to encourage all our supporters to come and celebrate our revolutionaries who departed."

Zanu-PF's Emmerson Mnangagwa was declared winner of last month's presidential election with 50.8 percent of the both against 44.3 percent for main challenger Nelson Chamisa.

The opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa however, last Friday, filed a Constitutional Court challenge against the poll outcome.
