THREE MDC Alliance councillors are vying for the mayoral post in Masvingo City, including lawyer Mr Collins Maboke, who is tipped to land the post.
Mr Maboke is getting into council for the first time after winning Ward 2 on an MDC Alliance ticket in the July 30 harmonised polls. He will have to contend with Ward 9 councillor Mr Babylon Beta, who was re-elected in the just ended polls.
Also keen to become the new mayor is Ward 4 councillor Mr Godfrey Kurauone, who was re-elected on an MDC Alliance ticket.
Eyeing the deputy mayoral post are the Alliance's Mr Daniel Mberikunashe, who won in Ward 7 and Mrs Selina Maridza of Ward 1. It is the race for the mayoral post that has attracted interest, with whoever emerges the winner is expected to fill the post left by Mr Hubert Fidze.
