Zanu-PF Commissar Webster Shamu has assured Matabeleland North provincial leaders that the national office would take urgent steps to address the controversial suspension of acting party chairperson Zwelitsha Masuku last November.
The suspension has already divided Zanu-PF structures with politburo members Obert Mpofu and Simon Khaya Moyo publicly attacking each other over the matter.
"I know this is a painful issue. I want to assure you that we will give this issue the seriousness it deserves. I will speak to the national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo because we need to move with speed and resolve this issue," said Shamu on Sunday.
"We do not want to continue in this situation especially as we are looking forward to an election. Let us not spoil the good work that the province is doing. We should finalise the issue to enable the province to elect a substantial chairperson under the conditions that will satisfy all of us."
"Let us not rush but implement things under conditions that are fair and constitutional."
Masuku was suspended in the run up to the Zanu-PF national conference in November last year. He was accused of violating party regulations.
But insiders say the fight is a result of a fight between Moyo and Mpofu to succeed ailing John Nkomo as Vice President.
