The Welshman Ncube led MDC has demanded the resumption of the Tripartite Negotiating Forum as that give workers a better platform for salary negotiations.
The call comes on the eve of Workers Day also known as May Day.
"MDC believes that the absence of sincere engagement with the workers in government decision making processes deprives the nation of the best ideas that will bring positive change to our economic circumstances.
"We therefore on this day demand the resumption of the Tripartite Negotiating Forum. We are convinced that only through honest engagement can the national economic woes we face be abated," said Nhlanhla Dube, the party spokesperson.
The Tripartite Negotiating Forum is Zimbabwe's social dialogue platform that brings together Government, business and labour to negotiate over key socio-economic matters. The TNF has been in existence since 1998 as a voluntary and unlegislated chamber in which socio-economic matters are discussed and negotiated over by the social partners.
Though it is a critical tool for the country's socio-economic progress, it has not been operating in recent years as there is no regulatory framework.
Dube said his party has shown "commitment to better the lives of all Zimbabweans" as it " deployed in government our best workers. These workers that have excellently contributed in their ministries and state organs to positively change the lives of the people of Zimbabwe.
Their great works are a testimony of our promise and commitment to deliver a better life for all".
In government, it has ministers Welshman Ncube (Industry and Commerce), David Coltart (Education, Arts , Sport and Culture), Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga (Regional Integration), Moses Mzila Ndllovu and deputy minister of Foreign Affairs, Robert Makhula.
May Day celebrations are held annually on the 1st of May the world over.
In Zimbabwe, trade unions which are supposed to fight for the rights of workers have been rocked with serious divisions and have also been accused of politicking at the expense of representing workers.
