Ncube declared national hero

Zanu-PF has declared politburo member Edson Ncube who died in Bulawayo on Sunday a national hero.
Ncube died of anemia at the age of 74.
Party national spokesperson Rugare Gumbo on Wednesday confirmed Ncube's hero status saying the politician would be buried at the national heroes acre on Friday morning.
"The politburo has decided that Ncube be conferred national hero status for his contribution in the liberation struggle and in post Independence Zimbabwe," said Gumbo.
"He will be buried at the national heroes acre in Harare on Friday."
President Robert Mugabe has in recent years turned state burials into a platform of attacking opposition parties challenging the former ruling party's rule.
Mugabe on Wednesday said Ncube was, "one of those who were instrumental in mounting the struggle for national independence through his active involvement in the recruitment of youths to join the armed struggle in Zambia under the banner of the Zimbabwe People's Liberation Army, resulting in him being detained several times by the Smith regime."
