ZANU-PF Mashonaland West Youth League has called on the party's Central Committee and Politburo to come up with concrete measures to address the economic challenges facing the country.

The youths said Government should deal decisively with corruption through prosecution and punishment of offenders.

Addressing journalists in Chinhoyi last week, Zanu-PF Mashonaland West provincial Youth League chairman Vengai Musengi said Government was under siege and the leadership should take bold steps to address the situation.

"We are now looking up to the leadership of the party and since there was a Central Committee meeting last Thursday, as leaders they should find ways to addressing challenges," he said.

"There is nothing that needs urgent attention and intervention more than the economy, which is causing suffering among the people. As leaders of the party they need to come up with solutions."

Musengi said allegations of corruption should be investigated thoroughly and culprits brought to book to instil confidence in economic turnaround initiatives. Developments on the market, he said, were a result of sabotage against President Mnangagwa's Government by some people in the system.

"The issue of corruption is a thorny one and it is apparent that the economy is not well at the moment," said Musengi.

"This seems like sabotage by some people. Without people being arrested and prosecuted for corruption, we risk going back to the era of talking about it and not acting.

"Anyone facing allegations of corruption should be suspended or do the honourable thing and resign so that the country moves forward. The issue of genuine crisp notes which points to the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe should be solved once and for all.

"Those sabotaging the party and Government should be dealt with ruthlessly to set an example for others."
