Tsvangirai fed up with Shamu, wants him fired

Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai wants Information and Publicity Minister Webster Shamu fired.
The premier is angered by Shamu's threats to the media particiculary the independent one that he would reignite a crackdown. "I cannot fire a Zanu-PF minister, but if Shamu was an MDC minister I would have fired him.
"I am saying to President Mugabe , Shamu should be fired," said Tsvangirai during a press freedom event on Thursday.
Shamu is understood to have said government is seriously considering "returning to the dark days where independent journalist were hounded and some even killed for criticising Zanu-PF".
"If the last five years of change do not show the media industry and the journalism profession to have fulfilled their promises, then the sovereign people of Zimbabwe have no option but to intervene and protect themselves through the instruments of the State, that is to revert to the regulatory regime of 2001-2007" Shamu said.
