Deputy Prime Minister, Professor Arthur Mutambara has implored China to consider value addition and beneficiation projects in its cooperation partnerships with Zimbabwe and other African countries to ensure that the continent derives maximum benefits from its resources.
Professor Mutambara was speaking when he bade farewell to outgoing Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Mr Xin Shungkang at the Munhumutapa offices in the capital this Tuesday morning.
Professor Mutambara also implored the Chinese to boost the transfer of technology and skills training from China to Zimbabwe and other African countries to enhance economic growth.
Deputy Prime Minister Mutambara, who described Ambassador Shungkang as a champion of commercial diplomacy through the promotion of trade and investment, also stressed that the Asian nation should find a strategy to engage Zimbabwe and other countries from a regional perspective such as the SADC region, COMESA and others to ensure that the deals benefit a large population and not just individual states.
The Chinese ambassador leaves Harare after a two and half year tour of duty in Zimbabwe, during which he has further enhanced and strengthened bilateral Sino-Zimbabwe ties in various sectors.
His tour of duty has seen the establishment of several new projects and the continuation of others.
Several Zimbabwean groups have been afforded the opportunity to visit China and get first hand information of how the Asian country has succeeded to transform into a world economic giant in recent years, while many high profile Chinese leaders and business people have also come to Zimbabwe to explore potential areas of further cooperation between the two nations.
