MDC deputy Chairperson Tendai Biti has alleged that during the election period he survived abductions by suspected military personnel and was saved by a lawyer who threw himself in front of one of the cars.
Biti was testifying at the Kgalema Motlanthe led Commission of Inquiry into 1 August post-election killings.
Said Biti, "15 unmarked Toyota Hilux cars tried to abduct me. We were saved by one of our lawyers who threw himself in front of the cars. We then took that opportunity to sneak away and that is how we survived.
"That same day around 6PM I was called by members of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission who were panicking. They said results will be announced at 8pm 3rd of August and inform me that they had heard MDC wanted to bring thousands of supporters to protest.
"I told them I am giving them my personal guarantee that no such thing will happen."
Tendai Biti also took time to explain allegations that he had worked with Jim Kunaka to organise the violent protestors.
"I hardly know Jim Kunaka physically...I know him as a violent thug who killed our people in Mbare. If I wanted to do violence, ndashaya here vanhu muMDC? Our organisation is full of lawyers, anything that's outside the law is not ours."
The Kgalema Motlanthe Commission is investigating circumstances that led to the death of 8 civilians during an altercation between the protestors and the Zimbabwe National Army.
