Following the passing on of NUST founding Vice Chancellor, Professor Phinias Magorosi Makhurane yesterday, the Zanu-PF party in Bulawayo has sent a message of condolence to the family and the nation following the loss of the esteemed educationist.
In his condolence message the Zanu-PF Spokesman for Bulawayo Province, Cde Christopher Sibanda said the death of Makhurane has left a huge void in the education sector as he was a consultant on issues to do with education from policy issues to the curriculum and his appreciation of quality education was of great benefit to the country.
Cde Sibanda said apart from being a decorated educationist, Makhurane was a part of the liberation struggle as a ZAPU member who continued to assist the party by educating young freedom fighters in Zambia while he was working at the University of Zambia.
"Even after independence, Professor Makhurane continued advising the party on education policies and was a national asset who is respected for his good work," added Cde Ndlovu.
Professor Makhurane passed away yesterday evening at Materdei Hospital in Bulawayo where he had been admitted.
Mourners are gathered at number 3 Marion Road in four winds suburb in Bulawayo.
He is survived by wife, Lydia, a daughter and three sons.
