The MDC organizing secretary Amos Chibaya has called upon the structures of his party to join the three day mass protest organized by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions.
"Noting the arrogance by the government reflected especially in Mthuli Ncube,Nick Mangwana and Energy Mutodi's statements, it is clear to the MDC that Zanu PF is unrepentant." Chibaya said. "They see nothing wrong with the decisions they made in recent times even when results show that they have worsened the people's plight.
"The National Organising Department of the MDC hereby calls all the structures of the MDC to join peaceful action called by the ZCTU and other citizen movements."
Chibaya said MDC is a party of the workers hence the decision to join hands is solidarity with the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions.
"We are all suffering the same way the workers are suffering. In any case the MDC is a party of the working people, the workers struggles are the MDC struggles. All structures are therefore urged to be in solidarity with the action."
Chibaya further called upon MDC members to observe peace and respect the rights of other citizens.
"We however emphasize that all party members be peaceful and respect the rights of those not participating in the strike."
Protestors all over Zimbabwe engaged in a mass uprising which started peaceful but became violent as the day progressed.
In Bulawayo police were overpowered and they had to seek reinforcement. Teargas was thrown at residential areas and water canons sprayed protestors.
In Harare two people were shot by the police officers and ten were injured.
In Epworrth roads were closed with burnt tyres.
