MDC has thwarted an attempt by Zanu-PF to undermine the views of the people by trying to push into the constitution making process their manifesto that is hugely divorced from the views that were expressed by the people of Zimbabwe during the outreach exercise. This was revealed by the MDC President Prof Welshman Ncube while addressing thousands of party supporters in Samawuru, Tsholotsho North this afternoon.
"Zanu-PF has tried to rig, this time in the constitution, they brought their document to the constitution making process which say they are not happy with devolution and the Truth and Reconciliation Commission among other issues. Our green team there was very alert , they said no, no, no Zanu-PF, not in our lives we won't allow that to happen. Am happy to say that this MDC and only this party is protecting your views," the MDC President said amid a thunderous applause.
President Ncube went on to say that this is once again a reflection of how manipulative and corrupt Zanu-PF is, he said that a majority of provinces came out unwavering in their quest for devolution of power and the creation of truth and reconciliation commission among other issues that Zanu-PF is trying to manipulate. He went on to say that Truth and Reconciliation Commission will be a body that will address the issue of Gukurahundi and other heinous crimes committed against the people of Zimbabwe by the Mugabe regime.
"Imagine, they (Zanu-PF) brought a document that says, delete devolution, they say no we also don't want this commission called Truth and Reconciliation Commission, honestly this is a reflection that the party is unpopular, it wants to impose its will on the people, this time we say Mugabe no Mugabe we will defend the people of Zimbabwe to the last end," he said.
On Thursday there was a stalemate in the constitution making process as Zanu-PF brought a 32 page document that seeks to subtract the views of the people of Zimbabwe with the views of Zanu-PF politburo. The MDC representative at Copac blocked this initiative forcing Zanu-PF to refer their position to the management committee of Copac where the MDC is represented by the Secretary General Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga, the Deputy Secretary General Moses Mzila Ndlovu and the National Secretary for Legal Affairs David Coltart.
