MDC Alliance president Nelson Chamisa has turned 41 today, nearly breaking the internet as thousands of Zimbabweans took to social media to wish him a happy birthday.

Political activist Acie Lumumba said: "The sweet spot of Zimbabwean politics @nelsonchamisa . Happy Birthday to the maverick of Zimbabwean politics. Twitter doesnt give me enough words but lets me say this: Head Bowed Brother. Zvikafamba mushe 2023 we will be in Zanu-PF (or vice versa) and I will vote for you."

Chamisa himself said: "February 2 seems like the best day to be born. On a Thursday morning in 1978, unto this world a child was born and a wonder was unleashed. Since then, mighty exploits and scores. I thank God for the grace and providence. Thank you all my dear friends for sweetening this life."

Chamisa became MDC leader after the death of founding party president Morgan Tsvangirai died in February in February 2018.

Tsvangirai's daughter, Vimbai Tsvangirayi Java wished Chamisa a long life full of blessings.

Writing on Twitter on Saturday, Vimbai said: "Happy birthday to the People's President Adv Nelson Chamisa. Wishing you many more years of blessings and grace. May God continue to give you wisdom and guidance on this journey."

Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, former Masvingo Provincial Minister and now MDC Alliance member, said: "Happy birthday People's President. As it comes today, may it reminds you of God's purpose in you to lead this country to a Switzerland of Africa."

A few months after becoming MDC president, Chamisa contested the Presidential election where he lost narrowly in controversial circumstances to ZANU PF's Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Chamisa became so popular that at one point ZANU PF was mulling plans to raise the minimum presidential age limit in order to bar him from contesting the next two elections.
