Opposition MDC Alliance has taken a leaf from the ruling Zanu-PF and has resolved to establish a Morgan Richard Tsvangirai School of ideology.
MDC says the launch of the school will, "inculcate the ideals and principles of social democracy, smart leadership and to infuse a culture of good governance across all strands of leadership and membership."
Ruling Zanu-PF politicians wishing to stand as members of parliament are required to take orientation lessons at the newly established Chitepo Ideological College, it not yet clear whether MDC will do the same.
This was one of the resolutions from the MDC National Council meeting held on 22 February 2019 at the party headquarters Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House.

4. School of Ideology
4.1 Council resolves to launch the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai School of ideology so as to inculcate the ideals and principles of social democracy, smart leadership and to infuse a culture of good governance across all strands of leadership and membership.
Zanu-PF launched its Chitepo Ideological College to exert better "ideological guidance" to its aspiring MPs.
Individuals angling to become Zanu-PF members of Parliament first need to undergo mandatory ideology classes.
As the front line of ideological work, MPs bear the responsibility of studying and propagating Marxism; cultivating and promoting the core values of socialism; and providing the intelligence and talent for the realisation of the Zanu-PF dream
This Chitepo Ideological College will exert better "ideological guidance" to aspiring MPs.
The school will be housed at the Zanu-PF headquarters.
In social studies, "a political ideology is a certain set of ethical ideals, principles, doctrines, myths or symbols of a social movement, institution, class or large group that explains how society should work, and offers some political and cultural blueprint for a certain social order."
An online quick reference says "ideologies are the sets of basic beliefs about the political, economic, social and cultural affairs held by the majority of people within as society (political party)." It is therefore imperative that members of the same organisation share the same or a common ideology so that everyone pulls in the same direction.
In Zanu-PF terms, there is a common phrase "gwara remusangano" which simply implies to the way things are done in the ruling party, which in other ways depicts the ideology of the party, which like Althusser argues, speaks to the roles and identities society creates, in this case the roles of the party, party cadres, government and how all these structures relate to each other.
