MDC leader Nelson Chamisa says their congress which is scheduled for May is unstoppable because it is a product politics and not court processes.
Chamisa was speaking after the High Court on Wednesday dismissed an urgent chamber application by a Gokwe-based man who had sought to stop the party congress slated for May 24 to 26.
"Courts are there for solving legal disputes. They don't resolve political disputes in voluntary organizations such as political parties." Chamisa said. "We are ready for all the machinations, antics and stratagems of our opposition. They will not succeed!"
The Gokwe man known as Elias Mashavire had argued that in terms of the MDC's constitution, an extraordinary congress should have been held to replace the late founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai. He therefore challenged the legitimacy of interim party leader, Nelson Chamisa.
The matter was heard in chambers before High Court Judge Esther Muremba.
Chamisa is set to retain the MDC presidency, after winning uncontested from all the provinces that have completed their nominations.
MDC secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora who had initially expressed his desire to challenge Chamisa for the top post announced that he has pulled out of the race citing rigging.
He wrote to ZCTU leader Japhet Moyo complaining about the processes in the party.
