MDC set to heal divisions in Masvingo

NELSON Chamisa-led MDC Alliance has moved to heal divisions following the acrimonious congress in Masvingo where some officials were disqualified in controversial circumstances.
In an interview, newly-elected Masvingo Province organising secretary Bornface Mudzingwa said the opposition party is going to retain its status and reputation by uniting all its members including those who lost.
This comes after one of the losing candidates Tongai Matutu triggered a storm accusing his party hierarchy of playing double standards.
Matutu was disqualified for not being part of the main opposition in the past five years after he defected to former MDC secretary-general Tendai Biti's People Democratic Party (PDP).
"The main focus is to unite the party and bring our members together. We are going to persuade those who lost to come back and strengthen our party. We want to make sure that we are well represented in all the provinces in the country as we prepare for the 2023 elections," Mudzingwa said adding that the party was generally happy that the nomination process went well ahead of the congress in May.
Recently, Matutu told the Daily News that his disqualification was not justified as the decision was made on the eleventh hour. He accused the MDC leadership of rigging the provincial elections; something he said would weaken the country's biggest opposition party in the province.
