The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) party has ordered Bulawayo councillors to set up a committee to investigate corruption allegations against the Town Clerk, Christopher Dube.
This was resolved in a meeting today at the party's headquarters in Harare which was attended by Councillors belonging to the opposition party.
The councillors were summoned to the party head quarters following the spectacular fallout between a faction of the councillors led by deputy mayor Tinashe Kambarami and Dube.
Kambarami last week served the Town Clerk with a letter of suspension while the Mayor, Solomon Mguni on allegations of mismanagement of council funds and abuse of office.
However, the Mayor Solomon Mguni later overturned the suspension.
The local government ministry has already dispatched a team to the city to investigate the circumstances leading to the suspension of the Town Clerk.
A councillor who spoke to CITE anonymously after the meeting said it was agreed that all councillors would meet and choose the committee.
"It was agreed that we set up a committee of councillors to investigate the Town Clerk and then suspend him after the findings. Every case against him will be fully investigated," said the Councillor.
On the issue of infighting among councillors, the councillor said it was resolved that councillors who are found guilty of inciting factionalism will be punished.
The councillor added that the party will press ahead with its own investigations despite the government instituting its own investigations.
"The government is doing their own thing and as councillors, we will also do our own investigations," clarified the councillor.
