MDC Deputy National Chairperson Job Sikhala's case has been moved to August 26 after proceedings that took place on Wednesday.
Reports from Masvingo indicate that the court adjourned for 40 minutes on Wednesday to give time to the state to go through the defence submissions against further remand. ZANU PF had called for a meeting some meters away from the court.
Opposition MDC alleged that ZANU PF had mobilised some rag tag of youths to demonstrate against Sikhala at Bikita Magistrates Court. They were mobilised on the grounds that they were going to be recruited for employment only to be told that they are going for a demo.
Sikhala was charged with attempting to subvert the government, a crime that carries a 20-year jail term on conviction. Sikhala, through his lawyers, has denied the charge.
The charges against Sikhala stem from a video circulating on social media, in which he is seen and heard telling supporters at a weekend rally: "We are going to take the fight to the doorsteps of Emmerson Mnangagwa. We are going to overthrow him before 2023. That is not a joke."
