Parliament was forced to adjourn on Wednesday after chaotic scenes in the house when MDC MPs protested Agriculture Minister Perrance Shiri referred to them as monkeys and baboons.
Shiri was appealing to the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda to bring order in the house after he was bombarded with questions around allegations that $3 billion was abused in the Command Agriculture programme.
"I am not addressing baboons and monkeys. I am addressing people who are supposed to listen when I am responding. If they want me to respond and they want an answer, they have to give me a chance to respond," protested Shiri.
MDC Alliance MP Joana Mamombe protested Shiri's label, demanding that he withdraws his statement.
"The Minister cannot refer to us as baboons and monkeys. We need sufficient answers. Mr. Speaker, you need to protect us Sir. We are not going to allow that kind of language in this House. He has to withdraw," said Mamombe.
At that point, MDC MPs broke into the popular Highlanders song "Into' yenzayo siyayizonda."
Zanu-PF MPs responded with their party's "ED Pfee song" bringing the house into total chaos.
The Speaker then adjourned the house citing disorderly conduct by the MPs.
