Ten war veterans join MDC, seek forgiveness for 2008 terror

On Sunday ten war veterans led by Mr Nyoka that were members of Zanu pf party in Tovo area in Vungu came out and apologised to the villagers and asked for forgiveness for the terror they committed in 2008 election campaign period.

As they apologised the war veterans denounced Zanu.Pf as a violent party that and joined the MDC in front of 4000 MDC supporters. Tovo village is a resettlement area that was a known Zanu Pf strong hold and a no go area for the MDC.

Mr Nyoka who was in tears as he apologised on behalf of himself and others pleaded with the people to forgiveness and asked the people to  accept them to be part of the community. He pledged that they will now promote peace and work towards a just and a fair Zimbabwe.

"We have come here to apologised we are deeply sorry, may you forgive us for all the bad things and pain we caused on you. We promise before you that we will never be violent but promote peace and this party that you have chosen" he said.

A local traditional leader accepted apology on behalf of the community.

On his address the MDC President thanked the people for turning out in large numbers for the rally despite intimidation to take over their land if they attended the rally.

 "We are happy and grateful that you came out in such large numbers to show support in the face of so much threats but this is not enough. We need to again go and preach the gospel of a just and fair Zimbabwe. This is a sign that Mugabe is going and it is only this party that will take Zimbabwe forward. I also want to talk about peace. Yes we welcome our new members from Zanu pf we say this is your home, thank you for choosing us. In this home we believe in peace and respect for each other in our diversity. As a party we condemn violence its inhumane and undemocratic, let us be peaceful and love one another for politicians will come and go yet we shall forever be neighbours" he said.

President Ncube went on to donate blankets and baby wrappers at Maboleni clinic.
