Harare Mayor Muchadeyi Masunda has said Zanu-PF provincial offices in the capital city will be closed for failure to pay rentals.

"The honeymoon is now over for all those tenants who have been leasing council premises and even subletting them at extortionate rentals. Among the many tenants whose rentals are up for an upward review is Zanu-PF Harare province in respect of their occupation of council premises situated at Jason Moyo Avenue/4th Street," said Masunda.

Masunda said council had lost a lot of revenue to Zanu-PF and several groups aligned to the party that invaded council properties.

The groups were reportedly sub-letting the properties, but were refusing remit rentals to remit to the local authority.

According to the latest finance and development committee reports, organisations with political links were said to be refusing to pay council rates and efforts to engage the police had hit a brick wall.

Masunda said council was also not getting enough from the tenants who were using Parkade in Harare city centre.

"People like Susan Peters who are renting Parkade for example, pay, for argument's sake $1 000 and sublet and get an average of $15 000. "It's the ratepayer who loses out," he said.

"We want to review all arrangements and that's where Zanu-PF comes in at Fourth Street," Masunda said.
