Man poses as police detective to get a free meal in a restaurant

A Karoi man appeared for Magistrate courts for allegedly posing as a police detective on "special assignment" in order to "eat on credit" at a local restaurant.
The "special assignment" did not only earn Albert Saliki free meals for 10 days but also landed him in hot soup after he incurred a US$43 bill.
He was remanded in custody to July 30 when he appeared before magistrate Mr Robson Finsin last Monday charged with impersonating a police officer.
Prosecutor Mr Benjamin Negato told the court that on July 4 this year, Saliki went to Supreme Restaurant in Karoi posing as a detective stationed at Makuti Police Station.
Saliki allegedly told restaurant owner Jaswell Kapesa that he wanted meals at the restaurant for which he would pay after the completion of a "special operation" he was undertaking in the town.
The two sealed the deal after which Saliki and an elderly man whom he allegedly claimed to be a suspect were served a plate of sadza and a drink each.
It is alleged Saliki ate at the restaurant for 10 days, each time promising to pay later.
On July 14, Kapesa gathered that the "Makuti detective" had, in fact, at one point, been spotted at Karoi Police Station being led into the cells on theft allegations.
A police report was made, leading to his arrest.
