MDC Alliance' national youth organising secretary, Morgan Ncube who was a fortnight ago fired as Beitbridge Mayor was Tuesday replaced by his then deputy Munyaradzi Chitsunge.
Ncube was axed by the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe for siding with MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa.
He was fired with two other councillors Granger Nyoni (Ward 5) and Agnes Tore (Ward 6).
However, Tore later found her way back to the local authority after the MDC-T mixed up names while attempting to recall her.
Chitsunge was elected the new mayor by consensus at an event presided over by District Development Coordinator, Skhangazile Mafu.
Tore who heads the Social Services Committee was also elected the new Deputy Mayor.
"I come in to face a huge task of filing the shoes of Cllr Ncube and promise to remain focused on pushing for development in our town.
"I appeal for everyone support and want to assure you that we won't let political differences or ideologies scuttle development. This town belongs to all of us," he said.
Chitsunge said he will push for the local authority to have its own earthmoving equipment that is critical for housing, roads, and other infrastructure development.
He said the perennial sewer challenges was among his top priority areas to be addressed during his tenure.
The new Mayor also warned stakeholders on over reliance on social media where council business was concerned.
"My door and that of the town clerk are open for meaningful discussions. We should always engage each other rather than focus much on social media which is detrimental to progress.
"It is also critical that the council employees and the political leaders move with one vision to improve the quality of services we are giving to ratepayers," said Chitsunge.
