Zanu-PF spokesperson, Rugare Gumbo told the state media today that a proposal by the two MDC formations to split the office of the Attorney-General into two is driven by a poor understanding of the fact that the constitution is a document for posterity, not about personalities.
According to Zbc News bulletin, Gumbo said the idea which was directly copied from South Africa was rejected by the people in the views gathering exercise.
The two MDC formations proposed the splitting of the AG's office by creating another Prosecuting Authority office.
Zanu-PF rejected the idea saying the AG's office should remain intact.
"Our people don't want the Prosecuting Authority, 74% voted in favour of retaining the AG's office as it is while 2% said they want a Prosecuting Authority...," said Gumbo.
Zanu-PF has criticised two MDCs for looking at individual personalities instead of having a broader focus that the envisaged new document is for millions of Zimbabweans.
