Finance minister Tendai Biti flew out of the country on Saturday heading for Australia as he battles to raise money for budgetary support and the emotive issue of civil servants bonuses.
Biti declared that failure to pay civil servants bonuses to government employees was not an option.
Meanwhile, a budgetary support loan of around R827 million sought by Zimbabwe from the South African government should not be granted without strict conditions, the Democratic Alliance said yesterday.
"In particular, we cannot provide funding to Zimbabwe if (an) agreement is not reached on a new … constitution, of if an election before the new constitution has been finalised and agreed by all relevant parties," DA international relations spokesman Ian Davidson said in a statement to Finance minister Pravin Gordhan.
