ZIMBABWE has finally taken delivery of 200 000 Covid-19 vaccine doses donated by China.
The doses arrived this Monday morning aboard an Air Zimbabwe jet at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport and were received by Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who doubles as the country's Health Minister, and Chinese Ambassador to Zimbabwe Guo Shaochun.
The vaccine is set to trigger a historic inoculation process on a population that has not been spared by the deadly global pandemic.
The country's health personnel, ports of entry employees, school teachers are among the first groups of citizens set to receive the jabs.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is this Monday expected to announce new Covid-19 measures following the expiry of a national lockdown imposed early January this year.
The Chinese ambassador Guo Shaochun said Zimbabwe is among the first countries in the world to receive the Sinopharm vaccine because the two countries enjoy "time-honoured" relations.
"You know we have 1.4 billion population in China, they also need to be vaccinated."
