The Movement for Democratic Change election directorate led by Miss Ellen Shiriyedenga met in Bulawayo on Wednesday to check on the party's preparedness for the forthcoming polls.
The party's Director of Policy and Research Mr Qhubani Moyo confirmed the development in a telephone interview. "The party met and received reports from various party departments and resolved to invite applications from aspiring candidates with immediate effect," Moyo said.
The secretary general of the party, Mrs Priscilla Misihairabwi Mushonga will soon write to all party structures advising interested members of the party to submit their curriculum vitaes (CV) to the party.
According to other sources close to the deliberations the process will run for a month. At the time of publication it was not clear what qualifying criteria the selection committee would use aside from membership of MDC-N.
MDC-N Deputy President Mr Edwin Mushoriwa and party's National Chairman, Mr Goodrich Chimbaira, were recently quoted by various publications saying the party will hold primary elections where there is more than one candidate. A number of MDC-N officials are jostling for parliamentary seats.
Meanwhile the Deputy president of the party was on Monday involved in a road accident while on his way to the party's election planning meeting in Bulawayo. Mushoriwa escaped without serious injuries when the vehicle he was driving in hit a stray dog and veered off the road along the Kadoma- Kwekwe road.
