A 23-year-old Chitungwiza man who was in the habit of visiting his former classmates' homes stealing cellphones from them was last week sent to jail for 14 months.
Conrad Kwaramba of 18343 of Unit L in Chitungwiza was last month convicted of similar offences. He pleaded guilty to theft charges when he appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo.
Mr Murendo slapped him with a 10-months jail term and brought into effect four months which were suspended on his previous conviction.
The court heard that on March 22, at house number 18321, Kwaramba visited his neighbour Desire Neza (23) and asked for his Nokia X2 cellphone on the pretext that he wanted to buy a juice card to call someone.
After receiving the cellphone, he vanished and went on to sell it. When Neza asked him about the cellphone, Kwaramba failed to account for it.
This prompted Neza to report the matter to the police leading to his arrest. Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa prosecuted.
