Man sentenced to 4 months behind bars after breaching 140 hours of community service

A Seke man was on Monday sent to jail for four months after he breached a court order to perform 140 hours of community service following his conviction of theft of asbestos sheets worth US$588.
William Jena of Chakahwata Village in Seke was on March 25 sentenced to 10 months in prison for theft.
Three months were set aside for five years on condition of good behaviour.
Another three months were suspended on condition Jena restitute Margret Mukwata of US$294 by end of May.
The remaining four months were suspended on condition that he completes 140 hours of community service at Dema Police Station in Seke. Jena failed to honour the court order and was re-arrested.
He appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Mr Lazarus Murendo who did not hesitate to send him to jail.
Prosecutor Mr Edmond Ndambakuwa proved that on February 2, and at Chinamano Village, Mukwata, employed by the Ministry of Agriculture, delivered 21 asbestos sheets to her home,that was still under construction at Dema Growth Point.
She left the sheets under the custody of Jena and his co-accused Ben Samupere. On February 20, Mukwata's builder Misheck Makumbe discovered that the asbestos sheets were missing and inquired from the pair who professed ignorance.
Makumbe informed Mukwata and she reported the matter to the police leading to the pair's arrest.
