Security guard murdered while on duty, culprits escape with $4,000

A security guard based in Mberengwa was murdered while on duty by a gang of robbers and the shop he was guiding lost US$4,000 and more than R3,000.
Police have identified the now deceased as Rangarirai Dube (55) of Shopera Village under Chief Nyamhondo. Dube was employed as a security guard by a shot at Mataga Growth Point.
According to sources, Dube was found with two deep cuts on the head while his left hand was broken.
Acting police spokesperson for the Midlands province, Assistant Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident which happened on Tuesday last week at around 11pm.
"On the fateful day, Dube was guarding at his work place at Hungwe General Dealers, Mataga growth point, when an unidentified suspect struck him with an unidentified object on the head and he died instantly. The suspect went on to break the padlock on a screen door before he got into the shop," said Asst Insp Mahoko.
He added that while the suspect was inside the shop, he took US$4,018, R3,829 and two Nokia 1616 cell phones, easy call and buddie recharge cards before disappearing from the scene.
"Police are appealing to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the suspect(s) to approach any nearest police station or to use our police suggestion boxes," said Asst Insp Mahoko.
