Apostolic churches have pledged to vote for President Mugabe in the watershed elections this year and pray for peace to prevail before, during and after the elections.

Addressing hundreds at a Super-Sunday apostolic church service at St Johns Primary School retreat yesterday, Apostolic Christian Council of Zimbabwe (ACCZ) executive president

Archbishop Johannes Ndanga said the prayers will be meant for Christians to guard jealously their destiny. Christians from various apostolic church denominations attended the service.

"In the Bible it is mentioned that people should have the power to determine their destiny and it is important that people know their security lies in who they are going to vote for in the next elections.

"Apart from voting wisely, we are going to pray such that peace prevails before, during and after the forthcoming harmonised elections. The next elections are going to be the smartest and it is certain Morgan Tsvangirai would be defeated," he said.

Archbishop Ndanga said apostolic church members are going to vote wisely in the harmonised elections to retain President Mugabe's leadership.

"This inclusive Government is not bearing enough fruits for us and sanctions by the European Union and their Western allies have failed to destabilise us," said ArchBishop Ndanga.

" It is time we send a signal that they have failed President Mugabe. It has been prophesised many times that Morgan Tsvangirai is going to lose in the next elections and this year's elections will mark the end of his so-called legacy, relationship with his blinded donors."

Harare South legislator Cde Hubert Nyanhongo hailed the apostolic sects for the common purpose of seeking peace in the country.

"It is important to note that apostolic church denominations in Harare South have united for a common cause and we do not want to be in a situation where people begin to disagree," he said.

"It is pleasing to hear from them that President Mugabe's leadership was prophesised in the 1930s and it bears testimony that he is the only one with qualities to rule this country. We believe in God and he is the one who has been guiding our leadership."

Christians, said Cde Nyanhongo, had been supporting President Mugabe and Zanu-PF for some time and some have not been participating in politics.

"It is pleasing to note they have vowed to support the revolutionary party this time. They realised they will not get away from politics as proven by the Bible that leadership was God-chosen," said Cde Nyanhongo.
