The Zanu-PF juggernaut is gathering steam ahead of this year's elections with the party on Saturday resolving disputes that had erupted in the Masvingo Province.

A high level team headed by party chairman Simon Khaya Moyo emerged from a series of meetings with party cadres to declare that Lovemore Matuke is still the revolutionary party's chairman in the province.

There had been fervent speculation prior to the team's visit that the provincial executive will be dissolved because it had failed to deal with factionalism.

In an interview after the meetings Khaya Moyo disclosed that his team, which also comprises of national political commissar Webster Shamu, national secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa and secretary for security Sydney Sekeramayi, had also addressed tensions between party heavyweights Dzikamai Mavhaire and Josiah Hungwe.

"Some mischievous people had told the leadership in Masvingo that my team was going dissolve the provincial executive which was of course sheer rumour mongering driven by mischief makers.

"We made it clear that we had no such mandate and therefore everyone was happy. As a result we had very productive sessions with all the groups. People spoke openly and frankly about what they consider to be the challenges facing the party.

Some even pointed leaders whom they thought were behind disunity in the province," he said.
Khaya Moyo added that his team told cadres that Mavhaire is the most senior member of the party in Masvingo Province.

"One of the issues we resolved was the wrangling between Mavhaire and Hungwe over who was the guru of the province.

"Mutasa and Shamu explained the party's constitution and the structure of the Politburo and it was evident that the person who runs the party on a day to day basis is the provincial chairperson and his executive. The Politburo members are there to assist the province in terms of advice, policy and direction and this team is led by their most senior person in the Politburo and its is evidently clear that Mavhaire who is the secretary for labour and production is more senior than Hungwe who is a committee member."

Khaya Moyo also dispelled rumours that there were incidents of violence during the meetings.
"We never witnessed any incidents of violence it is probably the imagination of our detractors that has precipitated such talk," he added.

The team met with the provincial executive, Politburo members, members of the central committee and the national consultative assembly as well as war veterans.
