POLICE have arrested MDC-T Manicaland provincial secretary for youth Lloyd Mahute in connection with intra-party violence that broke out last month in Chipinge.
He is being charged with causing public violence.
Eight people, including Musikavanhu MP Prosper Mutseyami, who is also the party's provincial organising secretary, are on bail on the same charge.
Mahute handed himself to the police in Mutare with his lawyer Passmore Nyakureba yesterday morning and is expected to appear in court today.
Charges against Mahute and the other eight are that they allegedly caused public violence following misunderstandings with other party members at Gaza Community Hall in Chipinge during a party meeting to restructure Chipinge Central constituency on May 5.
The meeting was also attended by MDC-T senior party members including national executive members Lucia Matibenga, Mkoba legislator Amos Chibaya and Senator for Mutare Keresenzia Chabuka, among others.
The complainants in the matter are Sarudzai Sithole and Never Gwenzi.
Mahute's lawyer Nyakureba said his client denies the charge.
