THE Zanu-PF Politburo yesterday set June 24 as the date for the party's primary elections in the wake of the adoption of rules and regulations governing the conduct of the polls that will be held national in one day.
The decision was announced by national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo who is also the chairperson of the party's National Elections Directorate at a press conference soon after the Politburo meeting in Harare last night.
"The NED met today and deliberated on a number of issues relevant to our primary elections. They reported to the Politburo and this is the position taken. We have had our guidelines approved by the Politburo and will be distributed to the provinces tomorrow," he said.
Khaya Moyo said the regulations would be made public today. He added that there would be inter-district meetings countrywide tomorrow (Saturday) where aspiring candidates are expected to submit their CVs and application letters.
Khaya Moyo added that the Commissariat Department headed by Webster Shamu would train polling officers between June 20-21. They would also produce and distribute the ballots and other election materials to be used during the primaries.
Khaya Moyo said Zanu-PF was confident of winning the harmonised elections to be held on July 31.
He also said that he had presented a report to the Politburo from the probe team he led on an exercise to reinvigorate the party's structures throughout the provinces.
