HARARE - Emmanuel Fundira, Zimbabwe Council for Tourism past president was involved in freak car accident in Chivhu on his way back from the Midlands where he had submitted his CV for Zanu-PF primary elections on Sunday night.
Fundira, who is eyeing Shurugwi North seat, becomes the third Zanu-PF legislative contender to be involved in a vehicle accident in a space of one week after Martin Dinha and Edward Chindori-Chininga, who died on Wednesday night.
Munyaradzi Fundira, nephew to Emmanuel, told the Daily News his uncle was lucky to be alive.
Shurugwi North is currently held by Environment minister Francis Nhema.
"Yes we had a head-on collision with another vehicle in Chivhu at around 7pm," he said.
"We were on our way from Gweru where I had accompanied him to submit his CV. Apparently he was severely injured but is recuperating in the intensive care unit at Parirenyatwa Hospital."
Zanu-PF received CV's from aspiring candidates last weekend ahead of the party's primary elections set for Monday.
