ZANU-PF supporters in Zvimba North want independent candidate Marian Chombo barred from using the party logo and President Mugabe's picture on her campaign trail claiming that she was fronting the MDC-T in the constituency.
At different rallies held in the constituency at the weekend, Zanu-PF supporters said Marian was sent by the MDC-T to disrupt her ex-husband Cde Ignatius Chombo who is vying for re-election in the constituency.
Speakers castigated Marian for going against Zanu-PF by deciding to stand as an independent candidate.
They argued she was masquerading as a Zanu-PF member and that her arrogance proved long held suspicions that she was sent by the MDC-T to create chaos in Zvimba North.
The strategy is to present Marian as a Zanu-PF candidate and in the process woo gullible party supporters to vote for her.
"Her aim is to split the Zanu-PF vote and allow the MDC-T to win Zvimba North," said the deputy Zvimba North Zanu-PF campaign manager Cde Joachim Yotamu.
But Marian refuted the allegations arguing that although she is standing independently from Zanu-PF she remained Zanu-PF at heart.
She said she had dropped the Zanu-PF logo but maintained the President Mugabe's portrait as a tactic to attract voters to her.
Asked where she would present the people's problems given that she was not representing any party, Marian said she would be readmitted into Zanu-PF after the elections.
